First Look: Frédéric Jouvenot Surya Watch

Frédéric Jouvenot graces the Fine Watchmaking garden with the blossoming of an unprecedented complication: Surya, the world's first watch to show the hours by means of 12 jumping petals.

Crafted in pink sapphires, the latter change colour to depict the cycles of day and night while displaying the upcoming hour and the hour that has just elapsed.Like historical automata, the secret of this spectacular corolla in motion can be found in the most complex mechanism, concealed beneath the central minutes disc

An inner case placed at the heart of the watch comprises a hundred or so parts, including 24 jewels activating the jumping petals – cleverly interacting to create the magic of Surya.

First Look: Hermès Médor Watch

Design is sometimes about reinventing fine objects and the Médor watch is a perfect example of this principle.First created in 1993, the Médor watch originated from one of the first objects produced by Hermès alongside the harness: the dog collar.

For while a dog is a man's best friend, it
has also always – just like horses – been a source of inspiration for the venerable House.Initially intended for hunting parties, dog collars were adapted to serve as belts during the1930s.From there it was but a short step from the waists of elegant women to their wrists, which Médor thus adorned in the form of a bracelet.Since one creative idea often leads to another, the leather strap with its iconic “Clous de Paris” pyramid-shaped studs was then transformed into a ‘secret’ watch.

The ingenious and slightly mischievous Médor watch has fun with the passing of time by alternately concealing it under a domed cover or discreetly revealing it.This inspired creation comes in several colourful versions.Available in two sizes and graced with gold or steel pyramid studs, the Médor watch may be gem-set along its edges or entirely paved with diamonds, further underscoring the precious nature of this jealously safeguarded time.

First Look: OMEGA De Ville Prestige Butterfly

The new OMEGA De Ville Prestige “Butterfly” is inspired by the beauty found in nature and is an enchanting addition to the Prestige collection. The exquisite butterfly motif on the dial is inspired by Chinese popular culture, which associates the delicate being with love and longevity.

The watches in the De Ville Prestige “Butterfly” collection are distinguished by elegant and understated design. These are timeless classics destined to be cherished by the women who wear them. The De Ville Prestige “Butterfly” is available with three dials with exquisite detailing.A selection of models is presented with a mother-of-pearl dial with a diamond-paved butterfly between 7 and 8 o'clock.

Other timepieces in this collection are decorated with transferred butterflies with a matt outline against a mother-of-pearl background while a third design - found only on the models powered by a quartz calibre - makes use of a silvery or champagne dial whose unique butterfly pattern is achieved using ramolayage, a mechanical guillochage technique that creates a circular brushed finish. All three dial designs are complemented with eight or nine diamond indexes.

The watches in the De Ville Prestige “Butterfly” collection are presented in 18K white, red or yellow gold, understated stainless steel or a beautiful bi-colour combination of steel and 18K gold. They are available in three sizes: 36.8 mm, 32.7 mm and 27.4 mm.The timepieces are presented on a white satin-brushed leather strap with a mother-of-pearl effect; the smaller sizes are also available with a bracelet matching the case metal.

Exclusive: Hermès 'Of Mastery And Time' Exhibition

La Montre Hermès hosted 'Of Mastery and Time', a special horological exhibition at The Dubai Mall. The exhibition displayed some of the Maison's exceptional timepieces within a unique setting that played with time and offered visitors a captivating insight into Hermès' savoir faire in Haute Horlogerie.

On display
was the Arceau Lift, the first Hermès flying tourbillon watch, inspired by the historical premises of Hermès at 24, Rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré in Paris. The double H topping the tourbillon carriage and the barrel bridge of the Arceau Lift reproduced one of the emblematic motifs featured in the interior design of the boutique, above the door of the Lift after which it was named.Limited to 176 pieces, the watch was driven by Calibre H1923 visible from the dial side and was also revealed through an opening carved out in the back of the gold case.

Another highlight was the Arceau Millefiori, an unusual encounter between watchmaking and glassmaking.Beating to the tune of in-house created mechanical calibres, the pieces were inspired by 19th century paperweights, crafted by the Cristalleries royales de Saint-Louis.The 'millefiori' motif (a combination of Italian words meaning 'a thousand flowers') was created through a long and complex glassmaking process, with intricate patterns and a unique floral beauty.

'Of Mastery and Time' also featured the Pendentif Boule, the Heure H with baguette diamonds and the Cape Cod in gold also set with baguette diamonds, amongst others. The exceptional timepieces were inspired by the imagination of the Hermès universe, embodying a unique level of artisanal innovation and the know-how of the Maison in creating high quality objects.

First Look: Salvatore Ferragamo Buckle Collection

An elegant blend of forms and materials and close attention to detail underpinned by skilled artisanal expertise display the label's incredible craftsmanship continuously balanced with it's modern style. The creative key values of the Salvatore Ferragamo universe establish a profound dialogue between it's roots and the demands of the present.

Arising from this combination is the Ferragamo Buckle Collection, a new project that embraces the Salvatore Ferragamo eyewear and timepieces world and offers a modern reinterpretation of the concept of the buckle, highlighting not only the purely aesthetic role it has in the label's footwear and accessories, but also it's functional relevance.

An example of the finest Swiss Made artisanal tradition applied to design, the case of the watches reflects the shape of the buckle. The 37 mm-diameter case, which comes in steel or gold IP, stands out for it's distinctive cloche shape, with the bezel in metal or in black, beige or tortoiseshell-effect acetate, to match the frames of the glasses. The dial, in champagne, silver, dark brown or black, is further enhanced by the intricate guilloché finishing and the diamond-embedded numbers on the flange.Equipped with a Swiss-Made quartz movement the case features the crown at 12 o'clock. The asymmetrical lugs support the vegetable-tanned calfskin strap, which comes in 6 different colours: tobacco, beige, orange, brown, fuchsia and black with contrasting top-stitching.

The Buckle Collection sunglasses are reinvented with the front in the shape of a buckle, turning attention to detail into a hallmark of style.Made of acetate and metal, they are the perfect synthesis of creativity, functionality and cutting-edge technology: from the fastening of the acetate circles to the metal front to the stylish hinge produced from a block of metal and the Ferragamo logo lasered onto the stems and the right lens.Available in four stylish colours - black and gold, light havana and palladium, dark havana and gold, ivory and gold.
